2010 Prairie Day Celebration!

The Great Race

The Great Race, Episode 1, Chance, Pursuit, Risk (CPR) is an exciting new event coming to the Joplin area. The Great Race is loosely patterned off the TV show The Amazing Race. Teams of two compete in different legs during the course of the race, each consisting of various tasks to accomplish. Each team's resources are limited. There could be physical tasks, mental tasks, tasks that include finding things, and tasks utilizing strangers. Teams must rely on their own wit and resolve to win the race. The types of tasks will vary. The racers receive clues that will lead them from task to task until they reach the Pit Stop, which is the end of the race. All participants will receive a t-shirt and goodie bag, as well as an invitation to the post-race party. The goal of this race is to provide a fun and exciting way to raise funds to continue the mission of House of Hope, Joplin. This is a Rufus Racing, LLC production.

The March of Dimes Bikers for Babies

 The March of Dimes Bikers for Babies will begin at Powersports of Joplin, 4722 E. 32nd St.; Neosho Powersports, 728 W. Harmony; and Bumstead's, 1528 N. Main, Nixa; everyone finishes at Bumstead's for food and entertainment by Double Barrel. Registration begins at 10 a.m.; the ride begins at 11 a.m. The cost is $25 per rider or $40 with a passenger. Red Oak II Farm Girl Fest
September 18th & 19th l Carthage, MO

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 18
noon to 3 p.m. on September 19, 2010.
Admission is free and the event is fun for the whole family.
 
Crafts demonstrated include basket weaving, old fashioned rope making, quilt making, soap making, wool spinning and learning the art of knitting, and old fashioned Dutch oven cooking. Also featured are a goat milking demonstration, horse drawn buggy rides, a petting zoo, and antique tractor show. Homemade ice cream will be sold.

Taste of Home Cooking School

Doors will open at 5 p.m. for attendees to visit local vendor booths.
The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Shana Griffin, Executive Director of the Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce is coordinating plans with culinary specialist Danielle Edmonds, to make this a first-rate show. Every guest will receive a free full–color Taste of Home Cooking School Brand Name Cookbook that includes the recipes prepared onstage, as well as a gift bag filled with coupons, product brochures and samples. National sponsors and local businesses will provide an array of door prizes, too. Winners will be chosen from the completed registration cards that are collected before the start of the show. If you’re lucky, your name might be chosen to receive a bag of groceries or one of the dishes that is prepared onstage. Advanced tickets are $9, after September 13th, tickets will be $10. Tickets are on sale now at the following locations: Neosho Daily News, Mills Park Centre Furniture and the Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce.

 

The "4-states Idol Event"

 There will be two age groups performing: 16-20 year olds and 21 and older.
 General admission is $5; reserved seating for dinner is $20 per person.

The Great Day of Service

Looking for volunteers for this community clean-up project. For more information on volunteering or to notify about potential projects should contact Connie Chrisman of Joplin's Community Development division at (417) 624-0820, Ext. 570. The projects will be reviewed for eligibility. 2,000 volunteers are needed as individuals, with a group such as a civic organization or a company. There also will be a volunteer booth in front of the Joplin Memorial Hall, 212 W. 8th St. on the morning of the event. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, tools, eye gear, weed eaters, lawn mowers, loppers, lawn chairs, water, etc.

Race weekend will start Saturday, October 9 with Packet Pickup and  a Runner’s Health & Fitness Expo from 11am -5pm.  In addition to the Marathon and Half Marathon, a 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run will also be held.    Mother Road Marathon & Half Marathon participants will receive a high-quality “tech shirt”  and “finisher’s medal”.   The Marathon will be a certified Boston Marathon qualifier.   An attractive race shirt will go to all 5K and Fun Run participants with the event welcoming all abilities and ages with walkers, strollers and head phones welcomed along with runners vying for nearly 150 awards.  There will also be music throughout the course, finish line refreshments and a “Live Band” performing at the Finish Line Party and Celebration!
